Man fires on Calgary police before shooting himself

A gunman fired several shots at police officers in southwest Calgary before fleeing and later shooting himself.

(Colin Hall/CBC)Officers were called to a house on Sirocco Place in Signal Hill for reports of a man threatening to commit suicide on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. MT, said Duty Insp. Colin Adair.
When police arrived, the man fired on them but no one was hurt, Adair said.
The man then fled on foot and shot himself a short time later as police were securing the area, Adair said.
No officers fired their weapons, said Insp. Darren Cave.
A 30-year-old man was taken to Foothills hospital in critical, life-threatening condition, emergency officials said.
Police did not provide any further details about the man’s condition.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, or ASIRT, is handling the investigation.
