The Scotiabank Saddledome is introducing 'Bottoms Up' beer-pouring technology this season. As the Calgary Flames hit the ice this season fans may notice something new brewing at the Saddledome.
After more than 30 years selling Molson Coors beer, the Scotiabank Saddledome signed a five-year exclusive beverage contract with Labatt.
Sud-seeking Flames fans will now have the choice of Labatt's Budweiser, Bud Light or Alexander Keith's.
And according to Calgary Flames president Ken King, the switch was about more than the beer.
“It’s a common practice as the contracts come up, as the process is up for a bid all companies tender their offers and Budweiser had some innovative, creative ideas and a very solid offer,” said King.
One of those innovations includes the use of “Bottoms Up” cups, a new technology Calgary Stampede goers may remember.
The cups are filled from the bottom, and feature a magnetic disc that snaps into place once the cup is filled.
The new method is also more efficient — it takes just four seconds to pour a beer, and it’s possible to pour four at once — promising shorter line ups for beer drinkers.
Labatt’s Budweiser is also served at Rogers Arena, the home of the Vancouver Canucks, and the Winnipeg Jets’ MTS Centre.
