Police are investigating after vandals caused about $25,000 in damage to a new church in Balzac, north of Calgary.

Sometime last weekend the culprits broke into the St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church, which is still under construction near the CrossIron Mills mall, RCMP said.

Drywall in several rooms was damaged and numerous windows were smashed, police said.

Investigators are not treating the vandalism as a hate crime, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
