Another grizzly bear has been killed in Banff National Park on the Trans Canada Highway.
On Monday, a five-year-old female was struck by a vehicle near Castle Junction. Its body was found two days later.
Sarah Elmeligi from the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society said such incidents threaten the bear population in Alberta and motorists need to slow down when driving in the area.
Grizzlies are listed as a threatened species in Alberta and experts estimate there are between 40 and 60 in Banff.
Parks Canada said the animal likely got onto the highway in an area where wildlife exclusion fencing — designed to keep animals away from vehicles — was still under construction.
The federal agency said it expects the fence to be completed by the fall.
The bear was the second grizzly to be killed on the highway in Banff National Park this year.
