Police say a 15-year-old from Strathmore, Alta., who died Friday evening may have taken the street drug Ecstasy tainted with additional chemicals.
Strathmore police were called to a skateboard park at about 4 p.m. MT after a complaint that two teenagers were displaying "unusual and erratic behaviour."
Police say the teens appeared to be in medical distress and were rushed to hospital, where the condition of both individuals continued to deteriorate as they were treated by emergency hopsital staff.
A 15-year-old male from Strathmore died in hospital shortly after arriving.
A 19-year-old male from Strathmore was taken to hospital in Calgary by air ambulance where he remains in stable condition. The names of the teens have not been released.
Police say it appears the use of Ecstasy that "may have been tainted with additional chemicals" may be a factor in the teen's death. The drug is described as a small yellow pill with a Mickey Mouse design.
An autopsy will be conducted as soon as possible to determine the cause of death.
