Sports school moving to COP

A public school that teaches many of Calgary's top young athletes is relocating to Canada Olympic Park.
The National Sports School, currently housed in Ernest Manning High School, will move to COP in September, the Calgary Board of Education said on Wednesday.
WinSport Canada, which runs COP, has signed an agreement with the public school board to house the athletics-focused school in a new five-story tower on the west side of the Olympic park, officials said.
"Quality education along with expanded educational facilities and opportunities for student-athletes is at the heart of WinSport Canada's vision for the future," said WinSport president Dan O'Neill.
There are future plans for the school to be housed in its own building at the park, he added.
"With this new location, these students will have the very best of what the two worlds of athletics and education have to offer," said Naomi Johnson, chief superintendent of schools for the CBE.
COP, which hosted the ski jump and sliding events at the 1988 Games, has been undergoing a $200-million expansion.
Ernest Manning High School, a 43-year-old school at 3600 16th Ave. S.W., is being torn down to make way for the new west leg of the LRT.
West Calgary High School, newly constructed on the southwest corner of 17th Avenue and 69th Street S.W., is slated to open in September.
