A blanket of snow fell on Calgary overnight, causing poor driving conditions on city roads.
Between 10 and 20 cm of snow had fallen on Southern Alberta, Environment Canada reported Thursday morning, and the storm was heading north.
The snow was blamed for a Sunwest Aviation cargo jet slipping off a taxiway early Thursday morning. The plane only had two crew members on board and no one was hurt.

In Calgary, city snow plows were struggling to clear the roads. Overnight there were about 75 vehicle crashes and police were urging drivers to be cautious – to slow down and not drive too closely behind other vehicles.
Garbage and recycling pick up scheduled for Thursday could be late in some neighbourhoods by as much as a day because trucks were having a hard time getting through the snow, city officials said.
Environment Canada forecasted 10 to 15 cm of snow through Central Alberta, with Fort Saskatchewan expected to get the heaviest snowfall, with up to 20 cm.
The snow was expected to gradually taper off in Alberta by Thursday night.
