Hockey moms and dads might soon be able to watch their kids' games online in high definition.

Hockey Calgary is in talks to become Calgary's first minor hockey association to have digital cameras installed at arenas, allowing parents to leave their own video cameras at home.

The footage would be streamed live on the internet but could also be saved for viewing at a later date.

Hockey Calgary might be instituting the online live-streaming of minor hockey games. CBC Hockey Calgary president Perry Cavanagh said the cameras aren't just for the sake of family memories.

"This is an absolutely incredible development opportunity for the players here in Hockey Calgary," he said.

"To be able to sit down and review positioning on the ice, review technique, review strategies, review all types of things that would be, for beneficial reasons, giving coaches the ability to review with the players themselves."

A company called In The Play is hoping to launch the service across Canada, featuring several different angles at each hockey rink.

Parents would have to pay a fee to subscribe to the videos, but Cavanagh said it's too early to know how much the service would cost.

He said information about the high-definition service has been sent out and the decision to install the cameras will be up to a vote by Hockey Calgary's membership.
