A Ward 14 recount done Thursday saw alderman-elect Peter Demong receive 149 fewer votes than was initially reported.

Demong, however, remains the next Ward 14 alderman. He still received more than 1,200 votes more than second-place candidate Richard Dur did.

Returning officer Barbara Clifford said the recount was ordered because of a "technical error."

At one voting station in Ward 14, there were 142 more votes reported than there were ballots issued, she said.

Demong's campaign manager Craig Chandler told CBC News earlier Thursday that whatever the reason given for the recount, he expected he was "not going to be a happy camper."

"It's disappointing and it's unfair to the candidate," said Chandler.

But Clifford said she met with all the Ward 14 candidates or their campaign managers Thursday afternoon and she said they're all satisfied with the recount.

After Monday's election, Demong was declared the winner with 8,483 votes. Incumbent Ald. Linda Fox-Mellway came in fourth with 5,187 votes, behind Shawn Kao — who got 5,647 — and Dur, whose tally was 7,188.
