Calgarians made a strong showing at advance civic election polls this weekend with nearly double the number of total votes cast, compared to the 2007 election.

A total of 1,529 eligible voters cast ballots at advance polls on Sunday. By comparison, 896 people voted at the Sunday advance poll in the 2007 election, according to officials.

Advance polls are closed Monday for the Thanksgiving holiday, but will be open again on Tuesday, Wednesdsay and Thursday.
