Dustin Paxton, 30, made his first court appearance Friday on charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement. (CBC) The man accused of assaulting Dustin LaFortune now faces more criminal charges.
At a news conference in Calgary on Wednesday afternoon, police announced that Dustin Paxton was also charged last Thursday with the forcible confinement and aggravated assault of a Calgary girl.
The date of the alleged offences and age of the alleged victim were not released. Police said she was known to Paxton and that she did not come forward on her own, but rather was discovered during the investigation.
Paxton made his first court appearance Friday on charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement in relation to the LaFortune case.
LaFortune was dumped at a Regina hospital in April, disfigured and emaciated with injuries his family said were tantamount to torture. He has since moved to Victoria to be with his family.
A seven-minute 911 call to Calgary police on Feb. 28 about the LaFortune matter, the handling of which is now being reviewed, was not made by the female youth associated with the additional charges just announced, police said.
