The ride that malfunctioned at the Calgary Stampede on Friday night sits behind a barricade on Saturday. (Jennifer Lee/CBC)At least 10 people were reported injured when a midway ride at the Calgary Stampede malfunctioned Friday night, officials said.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. MT on a ride known as the Scorpion. Six people were transported to hospital but the nature of their injuries was not known, officials from the Stampede said in a statement.
Four people were treated at the scene for their injuries, and not hospitalized.
According to witnesses, one of the pods came off the ride when it was approximately 10 metres in the air and crashed to the ground.
One person was reportedly pinned underneath the car at one point, witnesses said.
