Some cab drivers in Calgary are worried about the airport authority's plan to change how taxi services are provided (CBC)The Calgary airport authority is taking bids from companies that want to provide taxi service at the airport, a move that has some cab drivers worried.
Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart urged the mayor at a council meeting Monday to suspend the process until the taxi industry and the city have been consulted.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier said the city, which does not have jurisdiction over the airport authority, can request the suspension but nothing more.
Some cab drivers fear the changes could lead to one taxi company gaining a monopoly in the city, which would affect other drivers and customers.
No information on the nature of the contract up for bid has been released.
The matter will be heard later today at city council.
