Human error caused a huge fire in Airdrie, north of Calgary, that destroyed four homes and damaged 10 others.

The fire on April 19 started in the garage of 162 Springs Cres. where months worth of garbage, flammable liquids, furniture and discarded cigarettes were stored, said the RCMP on Friday.

"The cause of the fire was determined to be human intervention contributed by failing to recognize the hazards present in the garage," police said in a news release.

The fire spread quickly through the wood-framed homes, melting the siding, and also destroying two vehicles.

No one was injured.
