Calgary youth are generally satisfied with their learning and sports opportunities but want to see improvements in transit and personal safety, according to a new report.

The Calgary Foundation and Youth Central released the results of a three-week online survey Wednesday after canvassing 1,235 young people between 12 and 24 years old.

The Youth Vital Signs survey was designed to give youth a voice in 12 key quality of life areas, while also passing on the results to key decision-makers in the public and private sectors, said the study's organizers.

Respondents gave highest marks to education, health and recreation, while a lack of represenation and homelessness rounded out the bottom of the list.

When asked what top three changes they want to see to improve their quality of life, participants chose better transportation, lower recreation fees and affordable education.

The youth survey is modelled after an annual study of Calgarians about their city.
