One person was injured and 12 others forced from their homes after a fire in southeast Calgary early Sunday.

Fire officials say smoke was pouring from the one-storey complex in the 800 block of 44 St. S.E. when they arrived at about 1 a.m. local time, but fire damage was contained to one suite.

The female occupant of the suite suffered second degree burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken to Foothills Hospital for treatment.

Eight people forced from their homes have been put up in local hotels by the Red Cross, while the remaining individuals are staying with relatives.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire damage is estimated at $30,000.
