Calgary homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a 17-year-old girl was found in a home in Canyon Meadows.

They found the teenager Monday afternoon at a southwest Calgary home. She was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

A few hours earlier, police and EMS had been called to the same house in the 800 block of Canaveral Crescent S.W. and paramedics took someone to hospital, said Kevin Brookwell, a spokesman with the CPS.

"A member of that home, or somebody associated with that home … was taken by EMS to a local area hospital," he said. "I don't know the reasons for that or whether there is any connection with the suspicious death," he said.

The teenager's body was found later in the afternoon when someone from outside the house called police and asked them to check on the welfare of the girl.

"There were reports from family members that she had been missing. That might have been what prompted the check on the welfare call," he said.

No one has been taken into custody. Police are speaking with the girl's family and friends.

An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
