An investigation by Calgary police into human trafficking has led to a search of a southeast apartment.

Police allege the apartment on Sixth Avenue S.E. was "used to co-ordinate the movement of individuals involved in the sex trade across the country."

Police seized 10 cellphones and two computers for forensic examination during the search Wednesday. Two people were found inside the apartment and have not been charged with any criminal offences. However, police turned over one person, a foreign national, to border services.

The 36-year-old woman was ordered deported at a hearing on Friday after it was revealed her visitor visa expired in August.

Police believe the computers were used to post internet ads related to prostitution, said Staff Sgt. Colin Adair on Friday morning.

Police said the search was related to the investigation into a Calgary hair salon that resulted in Linh Quy To being charged earlier this month with several offences, including human trafficking and keeping a common bawdy house.

"We believe they are connected but we will …go through the evidence, we will be in touch with our Crown and then we will make some determination if charges are warranted," said Adair.

"We've tracked the investigation from our initial search warrants back to this one. We don't know where it is going to lead from here yet."
