Some parents living in a Calgary inner-city neighbourhood are trying to save an elementary school from closure.
St. Angela School in Bridgeland has 106 students. Recently a sign went up announcing a community meeting on the possibility of closing the school due to low enrollment.
"To put that sign up in front of the school is a bit of a stab in the heart to community residents," said parent Laurie Stretch, who is trying to save the school.
Catholic school board trustees will start discussing the future of the school next week. A public meeting on the possible closure will be held on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
"It has by no means been decided at this point. It's just the start of school closure consideration," said board spokeswoman Janet Corsten.
