The Alberta government has approved $1.8 million in disaster-recovery funding following severe rainstorms in the south-central part of the province last July.

Residents were hit by flooding, while municipalities faced huge emergency costs as a result of the storms.

“These severe storms had a devastating impact on many individuals and communities and this funding will help individuals and municipalities recover quickly,” Ray Danyluk, minister of municipal affairs, said Wednesday.

Flooding from a severe rainstorm July 13 hit the villages of Rockyford and Duchess, the City of Brooks, the County of Newell and Dinosaur Provincial Park.

The province-wide Disaster Recovery Program helps municipalities and residents recover from severe weather events which insurance doesn’t generally cover.
