Traffic was moving again on the Trans-Canada Highway between Golden and Revelstoke in southeastern B.C. after a crash on the Donald Bridge Wednesday morning.

A semi-trailer travelling east at 6:30 a.m. lost control, said Golden RCMP Sgt. Al Strickland. The cab detached and tumbled over the side of the bridge, falling 45 metres into the Columbia River. A second semi-trailer hit the trailer that remained on the bridge.

Local search and rescue crews freed the two occupants from the cab in the river and a helicopter lifted them onto the bridge, where an ambulance was waiting, said Strickland.

The two occupants of the second semi-trailer weren't hurt.

The highway was closed between Golden and Revelstoke for hours, but reopened in the afternoon, with traffic restricted to only one lane.
