Two more Calgary men have been charged in a seizure of loaded weapons earlier this year that police say thwarted an imminent crime.

On April 1, police investigating five men acting suspiciously in Carburn Park in southeast Calgary uncovered a van with an assault rifle, two sawed-off shotguns, two handguns and body armour.

Officers identified two of the men as known to the gang unit, and arrested them on outstanding warrants. One suspect was a high-ranking gang member, said police at the time.

On Friday, police announced that after further forensic testing, multiple firearms-related charges have been laid against Wayne Ha, 26, and Zachary Megid Miraback, 26.

Investigators are making arrangements for a third suspect to turn himself in, said Det. Gord Eiriksson.

The discovery of new clothing among the loaded weapons found in April led police to believe a crime was looming.

"We are led to believe that the individuals that were in this vehicle had this vehicle, the weapons, and the clothing in an attempt to commit harm and possibly to murder someone else," said Eiriksson.
