Two men and a teenager have been charged in a string of armed robberies that occurred in late August and early September.
The most recent robbery occurred on Wednesday, Calgary police said, when two masked men entered the Pizza Hut restaurant in the 4600 block of 130 Avenue S.E.
A Pizza Hut employee approached the two men. One of them pointed a rifle at him, while the other ordered him to give him money from the till. The men fled in a silver-coloured vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Shortly after, police said, uniformed officers driving northbound on Deerfoot Trail spotted a vehicle matching the description. As they attempted to stop the vehicle, the men abandoned it and fled on foot.
Two men were arrested a short distance away, police said, and a third suspect later turned himself in to police.
According to police, the suspects are tied to at least five other armed robberies in recent weeks:
- Sept. 6: Sandman Inn, located in the 0-100 block of Hopewell Way N.E; Super 8 Motel, located in the 0-100 block of Shawville Road S.W.;Service Plus Inns and Suites, located in the 3500 block of 114 Avenue S.E.
- Sept. 1: Super 8 Motel, located in the 0-100 block of Shawville Road S.W.,
- Aug. 30: Dominos Pizza, located in the 3400 block of Douglasdale Boulevard S.E.
Charged are Neil Kehler, 22, and Matthew Brown, 18, both of Okotoks, and a youth, 17, who cannot be identified.
