The search for Nicholas Hovanesian of Calgary is featured on the website of popular TV show America's Most Wanted. America's Most Wanted is joining in the search for a Calgary man wanted in a triple slaying on New Year's Day in the city.
Nicholas Rodrigo Hovanesian, 24, is wanted on Canada-wide warrants, issued earlier this month, for three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of three men who were gunned down at a southeast restaurant.
Police believe Hovanesian may try to enter the United States on his way to his native Uruguay, and so enlisted the help of the popular TV show.
"This is the first time we've done this but I think that any time that we increase the exposure of our message, we increase the chances of success. We do know that America's Most Wanted does play in Uruguay on the Fox Network," said Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus of the Calgary police homicide unit.
Hovanesian's photo was featured prominently on the show's website on Tuesday, with details of the fatal gang-related shooting.
At least three masked men burst into the restaurant on the afternoon of Jan. 1 and opened fire. Sanjeev Mann, 22, and Aaron Bendle, 21, both of Calgary, were killed. Police say both had ties to gangs.
Nicholas Hovanesian, seen with different hairstyles, is wanted on three counts of first-degree murder. (Calgary Police Service) Keni Su'a, 43, was an innocent bystander who was gunned down as he tried to flee after shooting began.
Three men — Nathan Zuccherato, 22, Michael Roberto, 25, and Real Honorio, 25 — have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the homicides.
Hovanesian is described as about five-foot-11, around 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
In addition to being in contact with law enforcement in Uruguay, investigators said Hovanesian has links to Calgary and the Lethbridge area. Andrus said investigators have information that Hovanesian may try to disguise his identity.
If Hovanesian is not apprehended by September when America's Most Wanted resumes TV production, the fugitive will be featured in a broadcast segment, added Andrus.
