A stolen car crashed into a northeast Calgary garage and set it ablaze on Monday afternoon. (CBC) A stick rigged to the accelerator of a stolen car caused the vehicle to crash into a northeast Calgary garage and set it on fire.
Emergency crews believe someone placed a stick on the gas pedal so that the vehicle sped down an alley in the 3400 block of 60th Street N.E. without a driver on Monday afternoon.
By the time crews arrived, the car was engulfed in flames and had set the garage it crashed into on fire. Firefighters doused the blaze quickly, but a travel trailer, shed, garage, and two other vehicles inside it were damaged.
It was unclear if the car was already on fire before smashing into the garage.
No one was hurt.
Calgary police confirmed the car was stolen. Arson investigators are helping in the probe.
