A horse had to be euthanized after it broke a leg during a chuckwagon race on Tuesday night. Another horse suffered an apparent heart attack after completing a race on Sunday. (CBC) For the second time in a week, a horse has died at the Calgary Stampede.
The male horse broke its left front leg as it was competing in the third heat of Tuesday night's GMC Rangeland Derby chuckwagon races.
Veterinarians decided it was best to euthanize the horse, which belongs to Barry Hodgson's team, according to reports.
Stampede officials said there was no crash or interference between the racing wagons that caused the injury.
On Sunday, a horse collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack a few hours after completing a race.
