A former soccer coach has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for sexual interference with a child under the age of 14.

A judge also sentenced Shawn Chamberlain-Fram on Wednesday to three years probation and sex offender treatment. Convicted in January, he is also prohibited from interacting with people under age 14, including internet communications.

A teenage boy testified during the four-day, judge-only trial about four incidents in 2007 that began with Chamberlain-Fram kissing him on the cheek and progressed to fondling and oral sex.

The victim, who was 13 at the time and cannot be identified under law, said the events left him embarrassed, ashamed and confused.

In delivering her decision, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Colleen Kenny said she took into account that Chamberlain-Fram was open to counselling and treatment.

The Crown had asked for a prison sentence of three years, while the defence had argued it was the Calgary man's first offence so there was no reason for the sentence to be a deterrent.
