Returning to action after a week off, the Calgary Flames will have to hit the ground running Wednesday night when they take on a visiting team that has momentum on its side.

The Buffalo Sabres pummelled the Edmonton Oilers 10-2 Tuesday in a contest that was so lopsided, Oilers coach Craig MacTavish described it as "a debacle of monumental proportions."

Sabres forward Drew Stafford netted his first goal just 10 seconds into the game, and went on to score two more. He was the Sabres' top performer.

Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy had a goal and two assists apiece for the Sabres, who also got goals from Nathan Paetsch, Jochen Hecht, Jaroslav Spacek and Tim Connolly with a pair.

"We worked really hard tonight and it was one of those games where everything was going in for us," Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur said. "It's a great confidence booster for us coming back from the [all-star] break."

Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff understood how his opponents were feeling.

"I've been behind the bench on a team where you have a night like that and it's tough," he said. "The harder they tried it seemed like the worse it was getting."

Derek Roy, the Sabres' leading scorer with 47 (19 goals and 28 assists), notched a goal and two assists against the Oilers.

The Sabres (25-18-5) are seventh in the Eastern Conference and third in the Northeast Division and have won seven of their last 10 games.

Bertuzzi back in Flames lineup

The Flames (28-14-4) are third in the Western Conference and first in the Northwest Division and have seven wins in the last 10.

In their most recent contest, on Jan. 21, the Flames notched a 5-4 shootout victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Captain Jarome Iginla was the top scorer with a goal and an assist. He is the top scorer on the team with 53 points (19 goals and 34 assists).

Todd Bertuzzi, who returned to the ice after sitting out five games with a hip flexor injury, scored the winning goal in the shootout.

"I enjoy being in that situation and it was nice to get the nod. I was pretty happy when it went in," said Bertuzzi, who entered the game with four goals in his past nine games after going 19 games without a goal.

Mike Cammalleri's second goal of the game tied it at 12:35 of the third period.

"He won the game for us. I'd call that an impact. What a great move," Cammalleri said about Bertuzzi's winning goal. "He played really well. He was skating well. He obviously fills a big role in our lineup and it's very nice to have him back."
