A protester is asking a Calgary mall to apologize and replace his broken eyeglasses following a weekend run-in with security guards.

"I would like an apology, I would like for them to replace glasses they broke, right, and some of the clothes that they ripped," said Atul Jain.

"In the 20 years that I have been protesting various social injustices … I have never been attacked, never had a violent incident, never had any problems. Calgary is a very good city to protest in," Jain said.

He said the Deerfoot Outlet Mall granted permission to him and other protesters to peacefully demonstrate outside the Shrine Circus performances. He said the group protested for a week, and were packing up to leave when two security guards approached.

Jain said the guards asked him to leave and within seconds had knocked him down and handcuffed him.

"I kept screaming, 'Why are you attacking me? Call the police'," Jain recalled. "They were just trying to drag me into the mall security office, and I did not want to go."

He said the guards ripped his clothes and broke his glasses.

"It's a horrible experience, right, you feel completely and totally violated."

Mall officials said they are investigating the security guard's actions and will not comment until the probe is complete.
