More than $3 million worth of marijuana being grown in a Calgary home was being monitored by a remote system, police said Saturday.

The Southern Alberta Marijuana Investigation Team (SAMIT) seized 2,445 marijuana plants Friday at a southwest home after "a member of the public who had lawful right of entry into the residence discovered the grow," said police in a news release.

They said the house appeared to have been vacant for some time and there was major damage to the inside walls and floors.

Police found a system to steal electricity for the grow-op, as well a surveillance system that remotely monitored both the interior and exterior of the home.

The investigative team, made of up both Calgary police and RCMP officers, called the bust the biggest residential seizure in which it has been involved, with an estimated street value of $3-4 million.
