Stolen truck suspects arrested in Chestermere
Calgary police used HAWCS helicopter to track vehicle
Calgary police and RCMP in Chestermere worked together Wednesday to arrest two people suspected in connection to a vehicle theft.
Shortly before noon on Feb. 12, Calgary police alerted the Chestermere RCMP of a potentially stolen vehicle being followed from Calgary into Chestermere.
Calgary police were using a HAWCS helicopter to monitor the vehicle, a grey 2007 Ford F-350 truck.
The truck performed a hard turn and hit a power pole on Rainbow Falls Road at Merganser Road West.
Police followed the vehicle into Chestermere Station where the two suspects abandoned it and fled on foot.
Members of the Calgary Police Service and Chestermere RCMP were on scene immediately and arrested both suspects without incident.
As the incident originated in Calgary, both people were handed over to Calgary police.
The truck was confirmed stolen from Fort Saskatchewan and the suspects, a 21-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, are both from Calgary.
There were no injuries but the power pole did sustain significant damage, resulting in local road closures.
