After a marathon public meeting Thursday night, Rocky View County council voted to move ahead with a controversial development in Springbank.

Bingham Crossing, proposed for an area along the Trans-Canada Highway near Calaway Park, includes retail and office space as well as a seniors residence.

Many residents have voiced their objections to the project at council meetings, saying they live in Springbank to be away from shopping malls and development.

Rocky View County council voted in favour of a land use change at the Thursday meeting, which allows the development to move ahead.

But there are still a number of procedural steps that have to be completed before the project gets final approval.
