Some city councillors are questioning the decision to cut back on spring street cleaning.

City administrators have scaled back the cleaning budget by about 10 per cent, which will mean some streets will be swept once instead of twice.

Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot says this isn't the time to be cost conscious.

“There's certainly lots of money within the operating budget for roads and snow and ice control to deal with the issues that are facing us today,” said Chabot.

“The question is, are we going to have enough money at the end of the year. So if we need to make adjustments between now and the end of the year, I think that would be the appropriate time to make those adjustments, not right now.”

Ward 1 Coun. Ward Sutherland also doesn't think the budget cut is a good idea.

He says after the winter we've had, the roads budget may have to increase to repair more potholes.
