The son of Lois Murray has been charged with first-degree murder after her body was found in her Ranchlands home yesterday, say police.
Andrew Douglas Murray, 29, was taken into custody Thanksgiving Day and charged with first-degree murder Tuesday morning.
Lois died of a gunshot wound. Murray had just moved into his parent's home, where police say there are firearms lawfully owned and stored. Lois' husband was out of town at the time of her death.
Murray is being held in the Calgary Remand Centre's health-care unit awaiting an appointment with a forensic psychiatrist. His next court appearance is Wednesday.
Lois worked as a grief counsellor at McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes for several years.
"Our hearts go out to the family, we are very, very saddened by what happened," said business manager Janine Altamirano.
