Shen Yun dance troupe looks for Calgary Jubilee apology
A well-known international dance company says it will not return to Calgary if it doesn't get an apology from a local concert hall.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a classical Chinese company that has performed at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium for years.
A company spokesperson claims the relationship has been deteriorating.
Shen Yun released a list of complaints Monday against the Jubilee — including a lighting issue the company claims ruined a show.
Shen Yun also says a technical crew accidentally barged into the women's change room.
Jenny Yang speaks for the Falun Dafa Association, which presents the show.
She says Jubilee staff laughed when they complained.
"It's very disturbing" said Yang. "It's kind of humiliation to the young dancers. How can you just laugh it off?"
The Jubilee's director, Katherine Huising, says the group hadn't approached her with all their concerns before she heard about them publically.
"I was surprised, having not been informed directly," she said. "The press release came as a surprise."
Huising won't say whether the Jubilee will apologize.
