RCMP forensics teams were on scene Wednesday to investigate the stabbing death of an Okotoks, Alta., woman. (CBC)

Roommates of a woman stabbed to death in Okotoks, Alta., say they're shocked.

They had just moved in with the woman and her boyfriend this past week, and they only knew each other on a first-name basis.

The woman had just arrived in Canada. All the roommates are from the Philippines and worked at fast food restaurants locally.

The roommates said the couple minded their own business and there was no sign of problems.

They arrived home on Tuesday to find police had surrounded their home and said a homicide had occurred there.

Right now the roommates are staying at a hotel, and haven't slept much since. They only have their work uniforms with them.

Police say they found the woman and a man in the home Tuesday — both suffering from stab wounds.

The woman was taken to hospital by ground ambulance, but died a short time later from her injuries.

The man is in stable condition in a Calgary hospital after being airlifted by Stars.

RCMP will only say at this point that a suspect has been identified and was known to the victim.

The roommates say the suspect is the woman's boyfriend, who is currently in hospital.

An autopsy was scheduled for the victim Wednesday morning and no names are being released at this time, say RCMP.
