Rooming house fire death suspicious, say Calgary police
Calgary police say the death of a man in a rooming house Wednesday night is suspicious.
The man in his 20s was found unconscious in the home in the 300 block of 25th Avenue S.W. just after 9:30 p.m. MT.
He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The homicide and arson units are investigating.
Calgary fire’s Jayson Doyscher said crews were warned that several people needed help getting out.
"As soon as they arrived, they noticed there were people on the roof. We got the ladder and were able to get those people off the roof safely and continued on and were able to rescue somebody outside of the building itself."
Three people were rescued from the roof. One man was taken to hospital because of minor smoke inhalation.
