A Calgary man is safe, but his puppy is gone, after they slipped and fell into the Bow River.

A couple was walking their dogs along the Bow River near the Harvie Bridge Sunday when the man and his puppy slipped into the river.

The man scrambled to safety, but the 10-month-old dog was swept away.

A search by the aquatic rescue team and a helicopter failed to find any trace of the puppy.

The fire department has issued a warning about the dangers associated with the high flowing, cold water in Calgary's rivers and creeks.
