Private family funeral held for Peter Lougheed

A private family funeral was held for Peter Lougheed Thursday in advance of Friday's state memorial.

A private family funeral was held Thursday for Peter Lougheed at a church in southwest Calgary.

The former premier died last week in hospital at age 84.

The dignitaries attending Thursday's funeral included former prime minister Joe Clark, Governor General David Johnston, Premier Alison Redford and former Alberta lieutenant governor Norman Kwong.

He will be honoured Friday at a state memorial to be held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other dignitaries are expected to attend.
