Police still considering charges in pedestrian death
Victim, 39, struck by van and dragged
Police are still considering whether to lay charges against a driver who killed a pedestrian in downtown Calgary Thursday afternoon.
The 39-year-old female victim was crossing 10th Avenue at Fifth Street S.W. in the crosswalk when she was struck by a van and dragged a short distance.
Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the fatality.
Police say the victim was not at fault but with collisions increasing every year, they are warning people to be cautious when crossing the street.
Calgary city councillors are looking at ways to make the city safer for pedestrians.
Ward 7 Coun. Druh Farrell says that could involve a pedestrian strategy to minimize risk of future accidents.
