Police in Calgary seized 12 kilograms of cocaine and arrested one person after searching a northwest Calgary apartment last month, officials say.

The Calgary Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit — which includes RCMP and Calgary Police Services officers —seized 12 kilograms of cocaine, worth more than $1 million on the street, officials said.

About $290,000 in cash was also found when officers executed a search warrant at the residence on Varsity Drive, police said.

"A significant seizure like this one undoubtedly has a positive impact on community safety," said Insp. Gerry Francois.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts each of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.

He is set to appear in court on March 20.

The investigation is ongoing and no more information can be released yet, police said.
