Calgary police are investigating the serious injury of a toddler following an incident at a private day home Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Elgin Heath southeast for reports a young girl was in distress.

The 21-month-old was unconscious and not breathing when crews arrived, police said.

She was rushed to the Alberta Children’s Hospital where she is in critical condition.

Police are not saying how the girl was injured.

The Calgary Police Major Crimes Section has taken over the investigation.

Three other children were in the home at the time.
