Calgary police are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect in a recent sexual assault against a child.

Police say an eight-year-old girl was outside a home in the area of 61st Avenue and Silver Mead Crescent N.W. with her 10-year-old friend when they were approached by a teenage male on a black mountain bike.

After talking to the girls, police say the teen took the eight-year-old into some nearby bushes under the guise of playing a game.

While in the bushes, police say the teen assaulted the girl before being interrupted by a neighbour.

He then jumped on his bike and rode away.

The suspect is described as white and between14 and 17 years of age, roughly six feet tall with brown hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing a grey shirt, black and white running shoes and was carrying a green and black backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
