Plus 15 downtown hit by crane, police say

Calgary police are asking people to avoid a section of downtown after a crane apparently hit a portion of the Plus 15 network.

No drugs, alcohol suspected in incident

A section of the Plus 15 network is damaged after it was hit by a crane Saturday morning, police say.

The enclosure at Fourth Avenue and Second Street S.W. was struck by the crane around 10 a.m. MT and police are now asking people to avoid the area for the time being.

A portion of the Plus 15 is in danger of falling and pedestrian traffic through the section has been blocked off, as has westbound traffic on Second Street S.W.

Fire crews say the incident happened after a truck carrying the crane in a lowered position pulled onto the wrong street.

The truck and crane were too tall for the street and struck the Plus 15 section.

Police say drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the incident and that the crane operator was the one to phone in the incident.

There's no word yet on the cost of the damage.
