A man has been sent to Foothills hospital with serious burns following a fire at a Pineridge multi-family complex on Sunday afternoon, fire officials say.

A man has been sent to Foothills hospital with serious burns following a fire at a Pineridge multi-family complex on Sunday afternoon, fire officials say.

The Calgary Fire Department responded after receiving a call at about 1 p.m. to a fire in the stairwell at #42 - 2319 56th St. N.E.

The call about the fire came in at about 1 p.m. Sunday. (CBC)

Nearby units in the multi-family complex were evacuated as a precaution but residents have since returned.

Acting District Chief Martin Keefe says the sole occupant of the home, a man in his 40s, is thought to have serious but non-life-threatening burns from the incident.
