Emergency medical crews responded to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in downtown Calgary Monday evening.

The collision happened just before 5 p.m MT, causing major traffic delays in the area.

Police say say a woman was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 10th Street southwest.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. She has since been downgraded to stable condition.

Police say a man in his 40s was driving a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser when the vehicle struck the woman.

  • In a previous version of this story we reported the woman was hit while riding a bicycle. This is incorrect, she was walking on foot. We regret this mistake.
