The RCMP investigates the roadway where a female cyclist was killed Wednesday. (CBC)

One person is dead after a car collided with a cyclist on Highway 7 west of Okotoks Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP say a woman was riding along the roadway around 1 p.m. MT when she accidently swerved into oncoming traffic and was hit.

The 20-year-old woman, with family ties to Okotoks, was riding with her father at the time.

She was pronounced dead on scene.

Highway 7 was closed while RCMP investigated, but has since been reopened.
