Police have released the identity of the man whose body was found in a burning Ford F-350 truck outside Innisfail, Alta.

Oleg Alex Cusnir, 27, of Innisfail, and the truck were found in a field off Range Road 273, south of Secondary Highway 590, on Thursday afternoon.

A passerby called police after spotting the burning vehicle at around 2:30 p.m. MT. 

The fire was still burning when police arrived.

RCMP Sgt. Ron Campbell said the medical examiner's office determined that Cusnir was a victim of homicide, but the cause of death is not being publicly released.

"Today the RCMP Special Tactical Operations team were conducting a ground search of the area in hopes to locate further evidence to support the ongoing investigation," Campbell said in a written statement.

Cusnir's family has been notified, he said.
