The province announced funding for a new elementary school in north Lethbridge on Wednesday.

The Kindergarten to Grade 6 Catholic school will accommodate up to 450 students in the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division.

The announcement is part of the province’s pledge to build 50 new schools and modernize 70 others at a cost of $2 billion.

“I’m excited that Lethbridge families are going to benefit from this investment,” Premier Alison Redford said in a release.

With Wednesday’s announcement, 43 new school projects are underway. The remaining seven are set to be announced later this month, the province said.

Alberta Education announced 10 new schools for Calgary suburbs and a new location for the Calgary Arts Academy on Monday.

It also announced three new schools and one expansion for Edmonton.
