A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a delivery truck that pulled out in front of him in southeast Calgary this afternoon.

EMS says a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene

The crash happened in the 4100 block of 61st Avenue at around 2 p.m. MT.

"It does appear that from initial sources that one vehicle has conducted an unsafe left turn across the path of the motorcycle," said acting Sgt. Malcolm Hooker.

"The motorcycle did try to take some sort of evasive action but that was not successful."

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, but police say that is part of the ongoing investigation.

Traffic in the area is currently being rerouted.
